Building on Canada’s rich history of landscape paintings, Emma White’s vivid compositions surprise and engage the viewer by breaking apart and layering visual planes. Through this approach, the artist paints a window into a multi-dimensional sort of consciousness. This consciousness perceives the depth, perplexity and beauty of our evolving natural world.
Emma White is an oil painter based in Toronto, Ontario. White’s surreal landscape paintings combine multiple plein air scenes with designs and symbols from the mind’s eye. Her intentional blurring of inner and outer worlds distorts perspectives and reveals new emotional environments. White has exhibited internationally with Carrie Secrist Gallery (Chicago), False Cast Gallery (San Diego), and Warbling (London). In 2022, she was a resident artist with The Guild of Adventure Painters, spending 2 weeks plein air painting in Banff, Alberta. She has recently received grants from Canada Council for the Arts, Ontario Arts Council, and The Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation.
